The Dogs

We have two dogs- Patch, a 7-pound half chihuahua/half rat terrier, and Shelly, a 26-pound mutt of a possibly terrier variety.  We got Patch on St. Patrick’s Day in 2007, so he was our first little baby.  He’s a sweetheart and a good boy, a real little lapdog.  Then there’s Shelly.  We got her not long after we got our house in February of 2008.  Here’s a hint- don’t get a new puppy when you’re living in a new house (with very little furniture) and you’re pregnant and extremely emotional.  She is not such a good dog.  I think Kellen and I need owner training.  We try to keep her in a cage in our kitchen that has access to outside through the doggy door but no access to the rest of the house, but she still manages to get out of the cage and into the house, where she chews things up.  We have holes in our walls, the ends of each of our couches are torn up, some of Jacey’s toys have been chewed beyond playing with, and several of my shoes have been destroyed.  Unless we can figure this out, Shelly may have to go live with someone else.

The dogs are always in the way when we need to be running out the door or headed to get Jacey away from chewing on the fireplace, but we still love them!  We’re just dog people.  And they’re people dogs, so it all works out for everyone.

  1. Shelly should go on some pet show on TV and demonstrate how she can put her entire body through that tiny opening intended for Patch in the fence! Of course there’s always her climbing up and over the fence trick also!
